Afowiri Kizito Fondzenyuy who is known as the Toghu Marathoners is hoping to break his own record when he will be running at the 2023 edition of the Sydney Marathon.

Afowiri who earlier in 2023 finished the Boston Marathon in 5 hours 18 minutes has revealed that he is preparing to run the Sydney Marathon in September.

Nicknamed The Toghu Marathon for running marathons wearing Toghu, a traditional attire worn by people from the northwest regions in Cameroon, he said he will keep running as long as his legs can carry him.

Having completed 367 miles in 14 marathons across Europe and America, Afowiri looks set to add Australia to the list.

“I have said that I want to keep running. I want to keep promoting everything I stand for which include running and keeping fit, my Toghu cultural heritage and opportunities for underprivileged children around the world”

“Sydney will be wonderful and I am already looking forward to it. I am training and want to make sure I break my Boston record this time”, he said.

By completing the 13 mile Sydney Marathon, Afowiri Kizito Fondzenyuy would have completed more than 380 miles in 15 marathons across three continents around the world.

He had previously used running marathons on Toghu to raise funds for causes such as providing books and other educational materials for underprivileged children; research on education and autism; relief materials for victims of Ebola outbreak, among others.
