NFL owners to consider updated tush push ban, new playoff format, and flag football proposals.

 

NFL owners will meet this week to discuss several key issues, including the controversial “tush push” play, playoff seeding rules, and a proposal to allow players to compete in flag football at the 2028 Olympics.

The “tush push,” a short-yardage quarterback sneak used effectively by the Eagles, is under scrutiny. Green Bay has proposed banning certain aspects of the play, like teammates pushing the quarterback. While some have safety concerns, others question whether the play fits traditional football.

Detroit has proposed changing the playoff seeding system so teams are ranked by overall record instead of division wins. This follows past instances where teams with better records had to play on the road against weaker division winners.

The NFL also wants players to participate in Olympic flag football. The proposal would allow one player per team, include injury protections, and promote growth in youth and women’s football. Stars like Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill have shown interest in joining.
