Over 50 people, mostly traders, are feared dead, while at least 14 others have been hospitalised following an airstrike on a weekly market along the Borno–Yobe border.

The strike, reportedly carried out during a military operation targeting suspected insurgents, is said to have missed its intended target, hitting civilians during peak trading hours.

Eyewitnesses say several others were injured and rushed to hospitals in Geidam, Yobe State, as more bodies are still being recovered.

The Nigerian Air Force confirmed it carried out air operations in the area targeting suspected insurgents but did not state whether civilians were affected.
