Concerns Trail Claims Over Visit to Mbakunu Mountains by Vitalis Terhile Neji

Public debate has emerged in Kwande Local Government Area following comments circulating online about a recent visit by the council chairman, Vitalis Terhile Neji    to the Mbakunu Mountains in Shangev-ya.

According to accounts shared on social media, the chairman reportedly visited the mountain area where a plane crash involving soldiers occurred in 2006. During the visit, he was said to have shown identification cards allegedly discovered at the crash site.

However, controversy began after a political figure and businesstycoon, identified as  Peter Haakyav Tombu popularly known as Ordubu Deli, claimed that the chairman was “working tirelessly on Mbakunu Mountain to bring peace to Turan.” The statement has sparked questions among residents about the connection between activities in Shangev-ya and ongoing security concerns in the Turan axis of Kwande LGA.

Some community members have openly questioned how a symbolic or investigative visit to Mbakunu Mountains directly translates into concrete security interventions in Turan, which is geographically distant from Shangev-ya. Critics argue that insecurity requires coordinated security operations, intelligence gathering, and collaboration with state and federal agencies rather than gestures that may be perceived as unrelated.
